General Cleaning & Care for OCC Rugs
Polypropylene rugs are a popular choice for their durability and ability to resist stains. To ensure that your custom polypropylene rug remains in excellent condition and retains its vibrant appearance, we recommend the following care guidelines:
Vacuum your rug regularly to prevent dirt, dust, and debris from settling into the fibers. Use a vacuum cleaner with adjustable settings and a brush attachment. Avoid using excessive suction, as this might damage the fibers.
Rotate your rug quarterly or at a minimum, once a year, to distribute wear evenly. This is especially important in high-traffic areas to prevent certain spots from wearing out faster than others.
Polypropylene rugs are inherently stain-resistant, but it's still crucial to clean up spills promptly. Blot the spill with a clean, dry cloth or paper tower to absorb as much liquid as possible. Avoid rubbing the spill, as it could spread and embed the stain.
For more stubborn stains, use a mild detergent mixed with water. Test the solution in an inconspicuous area to ensure it doesn't discolor the rug. Gently blot the stained area using a clean cloth soaked in the detergent solution. Rinse with clean water and blot dry.
*For washing rugs outside, we recommend using a power washer or garden hose with a spray nozzle. After washing, properly air dry the rug outside, or in a well-ventilated room so it doesn't form mold or mildew.
Harsh chemicals, bleach, and strong cleaning agents can damage the polypropylene fibers and cause discoloration. Stick to mild, pH-neutral detergents when cleaning your rug.
Polypropylene rugs are moisture-resistant, making them suitable for indoor and outdoor use. However, prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can cause fading over time. If using the rug outdoors, make sure it's placed in a shaded area.
Polypropylene rugs are relatively pet-friendly, as they are resistant to stains and easy to clean. However, it is recommended that you trim your pets' nails to prevent them from snagging the rug's fibers.
By following these care guidelines, you can extend the lifespan of your custom polypropylene rug and keep it looking beautiful for years to come! Remember that proper maintenance is key to preserving the rug's appearance and functionality.
